Built as the principal railway station in India, Victoria Terminus heralded the journey for millions of travelers alighting at Bombay’s ports, into the vast expanse of India. It became a symbol for Bombay (Mumbai) as the Gateway to India and as a major mercantile port city on the Indian subcontinent. It continues to serve as among the busiest railway stations in the world, with over 4.1 million daily travelers and remains an icon of the city.
