Preparation of a Conservation Audit Report for the World Heritage Site of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Designed by Frederick William Stevens and built between 1878 and 1888, was among the most ambitious of all British colonial constructions and spells the zenith of the Victorian Gothic Revival style in India. Built as the principal railway station in India, Victoria Terminus heralded the journey for millions of travelers alighting at Bombay’s ports, into the vast expanse of India. It became a symbol for Bombay (Mumbai) as the Gateway to India and as a major mercantile port city on the Indian subcontinent. It continues to serve as among the busiest railway stations in the world, with over 4.1 million daily travelers and remains an icon of the city.
